Old Joe’s Kaia is well-known for its excellent cuisine and fabulous wines. Meals are creative yet wholesome with a country flair in true South African style. Trout from the area is a regular feature, as well as venison and ostrich. Fresh vegetables and herbs are
harvested from the vegetable garden.

Our world renowned kitchen is becoming FULLY VEGAN after some time in “experimental” mode. As usual, the passionate and talented Marian will be heading up the kitchen. Avoiding animal products is one of the most obvious ways we can take a stand against animal cruelty and animal exploitation everywhere, not the mention the health benefits. More and more people are turning to a vegan diet for increased energy, younger looking skin and eternal youth.
For the past three years Old Joe’s Kaia has very successfully introduced Meatless Mondays in full vegan fashion (vegetarian dishes on our Dinner menus are also frequently fully vegan). Although met with a little apprehension by some initially, without fail, the guests are in awe and full of praise of the wholesome meals. A surprising number are glad to have a plant-based meal after a typical South African holiday, saturated with heavy meat dishes. This has stimulated not only many new and exciting taste sensations, but also uplifting conversations on how to eat and make healthy and delicious food without harming anything on the planet.
Meals can be enjoyed inside the cosy lounge-dining area or outside on the balcony at tree-top level. The view from the balcony is graced by the mountain in the distance and the lush garden below. Many interesting birds can be observed from here whilst enjoying a beverage or light snack.

The kitchen uses as much organic produce as possible. Establishing its own vegetable garden and buying as much local free-range produce as possible in order to reduce food miles are all part of Old Joe's Kaia's underlying philosophy of providing the guest with a holistic experience of harmony and tranquillity.
